Oplaland is made to be used alongside an adult: a parent, a teacher, a SEN teacher, an educator, a therapist. Here you will find how to get the most out of it.
At home
Let the child choose. Each round lasts 6 questions, then there is a pause: the right moment to ask “again, or that's enough?”. No account needed: the stars stay on this device.
In class and on the interactive whiteboard
Every game works full screen and with the keyboard alone. The printable worksheets can be adjusted for each pupil: dyslexia-friendly font, capital letters, very big text, fewer exercises per page, with or without answers.
For different needs
- ADHD and attention: one task per screen, short rounds, instant feedback, timer off.
- Dyslexia and specific learning difficulties: a clear font, “For dyslexia” or CAPITALS; everything can be listened to; big text and wide line spacing.
- Autism: every game works the same way; calm colours; no sounds that start by themselves; “First / Then” always in view; printable visual schedules.
- Physical disabilities: big buttons, “Steady touch”, everything with the keyboard, and Just one key: the choices light up one at a time and you choose with a switch or the Space bar.
- Visual impairments: high contrast, very large text, a voice that reads aloud. We are still testing screen readers (VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA) by hand.
- Deafness: no information is given by sound alone: every sound has its own caption.
Setting up and sharing “My way”
Open My way, choose the settings for a child and press “Copy the link with these settings”: whoever opens that link finds the site already set up. The link contains only the settings, never a name.
What it is not
Oplaland is not a clinical tool: it does not diagnose and it does not assess anyone. It is a free place to practise through play. Each child's goals are set by the people who support them.
